future genealogies

In this seminar the focus was on how ideas come together from a certain stemmed point. Like a family tree of interlinking connections- but in the opposite direction. That from a single outcome, the possible journeys or routes there were explored. In the above example, in a group, we had to analysis the effects 'back' from 'TINTED SUNGLASSES BEING FASHIONABLE".
It was important to 'pick apart' as many relevant branches as possible. Here we picked the topics which would most be influenced by sunglasses being cool, these were; identity, advertisements, family life, fashion and health.
A particular favourite idea of mine was in relation to family life. As a previous sociology student- I still have a strong interest in how factors effect the population and in this instance socialisation. Highlighted was that, if a child couldn't see a parents eyes, they may struggle with interactional skills and have trust issues, as they would never be able to learn emotions from their own parents facial expressions. Of course this is an extreme of sunglasses being worn at all times, not just to be fashionable. But its essential to forecast how trends can take over people's lives, and consequently their childs. Genealogies allow for this future thinking.
